Bishopdale School

Bishopdale Primary School is located 10km northwest of central Christchurch (see map). We are contributing primary, catering for families wishing to have their children attend a smaller family orientated community school in the heart of a large city. We enrol children from Year One (5 year olds) to Year Six (10-11year olds). We do not have an enrolment zone and can take children from the local area and from other parts of the city.
Our school offers our children and families partnership and engagement in the learning process and is culturally responsive to the families and community that it serves.
Our roll is around 130 pupils. We have 6 classrooms operating, divided in to three junior and three senior classes. Funded students in english have an opportunity for extra classroom support as do our special needs students.
Bishopdale is a signatory to the Code of Practise and is available to take on International students supported by a parent.
Our classrooms offer dynamic 21st Century learning environments which empower children to learn anytime, anyplace using Information, Communication, Technology tools. As well as individual learning in their classrooms, the children work collaboratively together and there are opportunities to join together as one family of learners across the school. The children have ownership and opportunities to have input into their own learning with the help of their teachers and parents.
Our Teachers and Community are committed to providing a strong foundation of learning by designing programmes to suit each child’s learning journey in a friendly, fun setting. Our curriculum provides opportunity for our children to take on challenges, build solid foundations of learning, academically and socially, using authentic learning context in a supportive, collaborative environment .
Our school charter provides extra emphasis on the Arts, Sport and Science to go alongside our core Literacy and Numeracy programmes.
The school buildings are divided into three large blocks; junior, admin/library, senior block. There is a large school hall, a junior adventure playground, a senior adventure playground, two large court areas and a very large grass area for sporting activities. Bishopdale has a proud 50 year history of education in the Bishopdale/Papanui area and continues to develop the next generation of learners in a 21st century learning environment.
